Durance River

River, southeastern France.

The principal river draining the French side of the Alps toward the Mediterranean, its origin is in the Montgenèvre region. To its confluence with the Rhône River below Avignon, it is 189 mi (304 km) long. It is the site of extensive hydroelectric projects that were established after World War II.
