a political party in Northern Ireland. It is supported mainly by Protestants, and wants Northern Ireland to remain a part of the United Kingdom. It is regarded as having more extreme policies than the Ulster Unionist Party, and has been led since 1971 by Ian Paisley. In 2004 it became the largest Northern Ireland party to be represented in the House of Commons, with six Members of Parliament.
