▪ 2002“Al”Canadian actor (b. March 2, 1935, Toronto, Ont.—d. Jan. 17, 2001, Toronto), achieved fame with his roles on the television series The King of Kensington and Cagney & Lacey. Waxman studied acting at the Playhouse Theatre in New York City and appeared in a number of films, including The War Lover (1962) and Vengeance Is Mine (1974), before turning to television. In his most memorable role, he played shopkeeper Larry King on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. sitcom The King of Kensington from 1975 to 1980. From 1981 to 1988 he portrayed Lieut. Bert Samuels on the popular police drama Cagney & Lacey. Among later roles, Waxman played a prison warden in the critically acclaimed motion picture The Hurricane (1999).
