▪ 2008Friedrich Hans Ulrich MüheGerman actorborn June 20, 1953 , Grimma, E.Ger.died July 22, 2007, Walbeck, Ger.gained international acclaim for his sensitive portrayal of an East German Stasi officer in the movie Das Leben der Anderen (2006; The Lives of Others), which earned him best actor prizes at the German Film Critics Association Awards, the Bavarian Film Awards, the German Film Awards, the Copenhagen International Film Festival, and the European Film Awards. Mühe began his career in 1979 as a stage actor and in 1983 joined the Deutsches Theatre in East Berlin, where he attained star status; he also appeared in movies and on television. After taking part in the demonstrations in East Germany that preceded the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he continued his career in unified Germany, and the next year the Bavarian Film Awards named him best actor for his role in Das Spinnennetz (1989; Spider's Web). In 2005, after having been nominated twice in previous years, Mühe won the German Television Award as best actor in a series for his starring role (1998–2007) in the popular crime drama Der Letzte Zeuge (“The Last Witness”).
