Turner Prize

Turner Prize
a prize of £20 000 given every year at Tate Britain to a British artist under the age of 50 for a work of modern art. Winners in the past have included Howard Hodgkin (1985) and Damien Hirst (1995). The prize is an important cultural event in Britain, and a special exhibition of work by the four leading competitors is held at Tate Britain before the winner is announced.
