New York State

New York State
a north-eastern US state which was one of the 13 original states. It is also known as the Empire State. It has the third largest population of any state, after California and Texas. The largest city is New York, and the capital city is Albany. Henry Hudson visited the area in 1609, and the first people to settle there permanently were the Dutch in 1624. Tourist attractions include the Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, the Adirondack Mountains and the Catskill Mountains. Important industries include manufacturing, publishing, banking and commerce.
