▪ Indiaalso called Tehri-Garhwaltown, central Uttarakhand state, northern India. Formerly the princely state of Tehri, it was merged with the United Provinces in 1947–48. The town is an agricultural trade centre on the Bhagirathi River. The surrounding area occupies an area wholly within the Siwalik (Shiwalik) Range (Outer Himalayas), and it is bounded to the south by the Ganges (Ganga) River. Rice, barley, wheat, and oilseeds are among the main crops. Pop. (2001) town, 25,423.
