Iraq
      city, southern Iraq. It is approximately 164 miles (266 km) south of Baghdad and is located on the Euphrates River. The city is the agricultural market centre of the locality, in which vineyards and orchards are cultivated. Al-Samāwah has a large cement plant. Pop. (2004 est.) 131,900.
