      any wax obtained from petroleum, including paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, and petroleum jelly (qq.v.). By comparison, animal and vegetable waxes are generally higher in cost, of varying chemical constitution, and of uncertain availability and have thus been largely displaced by petroleum waxes.
