▪ Francenew town (French ville nouvelle), located immediately north of Melun in the départements of Seine-et-Marne and Essonne, north-central France. Melun-Sénart, which is southeast of Paris, is one of several new towns developed outside the capital since 1965. The agglomeration of Melun-Sénart includes Melun and the communes of Boissettes, Dammarie-Les-Lyes, Livry-sur-Seine, Le Mée-sur Seine, La Rochette, Rubelles, and Vaux-le-Pénil. The new town of Évry is nearby. Pop. (1982) agglomeration, 81,732.
