Jenkins, David

▪ American figure skater
born June 29, 1936, Akron, Ohio, U.S.

American figure skater who won a gold medal at the 1960 Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley, Calif.

Jenkins and his brother Hayes Alan (Jenkins, Hayes Alan) were a dominating force in American competitive figure skating for much of the 1950s. After watching his brother go undefeated in major competition for four years, David held the U.S. national title from 1957 to 1960 and the world title from 1957 to 1959. He captured the bronze medal at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, and the gold at the Games in 1960. During his years as a successful skater, Jenkins earned a degree from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, and he later became a physician.
