A city of west-central India northeast of Mumbai (Bombay). It has a weaving industry. Population: 342,595.

      city, northwestern Maharashtra (Mahārāshtra) state, western India. Part of the Nasik urban agglomeration, Malegaon is located on the Girna River and on the Mumbai-Agra highway. An important market for agricultural produce, it was also an early centre of the hand-loom industry. It rapidly industrialized and has recorded remarkable growth since the 1940s. Cotton and silk goods are exported to Mumbai (Bombay), Pune, and Satara. The city has several colleges affiliated with the University of Pune. Pop. (2001) 409,403.
