▪ prosodypoetic measure devised by the French poet and composer Antoine Fabre d'Olivet (1767–1825). It consists of two unrhymed alexandrines (alexandrine) (lines of iambic hexameter), the first verse of 12 syllables ending in masculine (stressed) rhyme (masculine rhyme), the second of 13 syllables ending in feminine (unstressed) rhyme (feminine rhyme).
