dry gas

dry gas

▪ petroleum product
natural gas that is always in the gaseous state in the reservoir and produces little condensable hydrocarbons (compounds composed mainly of hydrogen and carbon) when brought to the surface. Thus, these gases contain very small proportions (less than 0.1 gallon condensables per 1,000 cubic feet) of hydrocarbons heavier than ethane—butane or propane, for example. See also wet gas.
