Crowborough

Crowborough

town (parish), Wealden district, administrative county of East Sussex, historic county of Sussex, England, 40 miles (64 km) southeast of London. It serves as headquarters of its district. A hilltop town, it is situated on the highest of the wooded ridges that comprise The Weald (between 500 and 800 ft [150 and 240 m]). Located in a forest area where settlement is typically in small hamlets linked by a maze of narrow lanes, Crowborough has grown by the joining together of a number of these hamlets so that the present urban area is a diffuse, disjointed spread of houses and shops. Pop. (2001) 20,281.
