Situated in a section of the Riverina that produces wool, wheat, cattle, and fruits, Corowa has flour mills, timber mills, malt and stock-feed processing plants, and wineries. Lying just off the Murray Valley and Riverina highways, the town has air and rail connections with Sydney (312 miles [502 km] northeast) and Melbourne. Corowa was proclaimed a town in 1885; it became a shire in 1955 and a municipality in 1963. Pop. (2006) 5,628.
