Corinna

Corinna

▪ Greek poet
(date uncertain), Greek lyric poet of Tanagra in Boeotia, traditionally considered a contemporary and rival of the lyric poet Pindar (flourished c. 500 BC) though some scholars have put her date as late as about 200 BC. Surviving fragments of her poetry, written in Boeotian dialect, include a song contest between the mountain gods Cithaeron and Helicon. Written in simple style, her lyrics were mainly concerned with Boeotian mythology.
