Asian Development Bank

Asian Development Bank

      organization that provides loans and equity investments for development projects in its member countries. The bank also provides technical assistance for projects and programs, and it promotes the investment of capital for development. It was established in August 1966 under the auspices of the United Nations organization now known as ESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) and is headquartered in Manila.

      At the turn of the 21st century, the ADB was composed of more than 40 regional members, which included countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. The bank's top borrowers include Indonesia, the People's Republic of China, India, and Pakistan.
