Āshar min Ramaḍān, Madīnat al-ʿ

      city, western Al-Ismāʿīlīyah (Ismāʿīliyyah, Al-) muḥāfaẓah (governorate), east of the Nile River delta, Lower Egypt. Construction of this industrial centre began in 1977 as part of the Egyptian government's program to shift population and industry away from Cairo and the cultivable lands of the Nile River valley.

      Industries that have been established include factories that manufacture pharmaceuticals, plastics, electrical appliances, and medical furniture. There is also a wood treatment plant.

      Housing, schools, medical facilities, and mosques were built in the late 1970s. Madīnat al-ʿĀshar min Ramaḍān is located just north of the desert highway from Cairo to Ismailia. Pop. (1996) 47,839.
