▪ American actorin full Carver Dana Andrewsborn Jan. 1, 1909, Collins, Miss., U.S.died Dec. 17, 1992, Los Angeles, Calif.American actor, a handsome leading man who appeared in such films of the 1940s as The Ox-Bow Incident (1943), Laura (1944), A Walk in the Sun (1945), and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946).A onetime accountant, Andrews in 1931 hitchhiked to Los Angeles, where he worked at various jobs before attracting notice with his first successful motion picture, The Westerner (1940). Some of his other notable films include Boomerang! (1947), My Foolish Heart (1950), Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (1956), and While the City Sleeps (1956). After his film career began to wane in the 1960s, he performed onstage and in television before returning to motion pictures in Airport 1975 (1974) and The Last Tycoon (1976).
