▪ 2004American actress (b. Dec. 22, 1948, Joliet, Ill.—d. March 12, 2003, Los Angeles, Calif.), worked as a character actress on stage, screen, and television. Thigpen was best known for her TV roles, which included a regular part on the soap opera All My Children (1993–2000), the character of the Chief in the children's television programs Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? (1991) and Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego? (1996), and a costarring position as Ella Farmer on the series The District, beginning in 2000. She won a number of awards for her stage work, among them a Tony Award for best supporting actress in 1997 for her role in An American Daughter.
