      American sports marketing entrepreneur (b. Nov. 6, 1930, Chicago, Ill.—d. May 16, 2003, New York, N.Y.), began in 1960 with a handshake agreement to represent golfer Arnold Palmer as his business agent and built his enterprise into IMG (formerly International Management Group), which pioneered the idea of gaining lucrative product-endorsement deals for its clients and came to include many of the world's top sports and entertainment figures in its roster. The billion-dollar-a-year IMG also produced sports broadcasts and sponsored and promoted tournaments.
