Lange, Hope Elise Ross

      American actress (b. Nov. 28, 1931/33, Redding Ridge, Conn.—d. Dec. 19, 2003, Santa Monica, Calif.), was already a veteran of stage and television when she made an impressive film debut in 1956 in Bus Stop, and the following year she earned an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress for her role in Peyton Place. She went on to win back-to-back Emmy Awards (1969 and 1970) for her lead role in the TV series The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and later appeared in such films as Blue Velvet (1986) and Clear and Present Danger (1994).
