▪ 2005Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle CamminateItalian-born graphic designer and illustrator (b. Feb. 4, 1909, Rimini, Italy—d. March 31, 2004, Rome, Italy), created stylish graphics and elegant, sophisticated ads for high-fashion houses and magazines. With his works that suggested an inspired melding of Japanese drawing and Toulouse-Lautrec posters, Gruau, who was self-taught, formed a bridge between the celebrated French poster tradition and modern advertising. His clients included couturiers such as Christian Dior, Givenchy, and Pierre Balmain, Vichy water, the Moulin Rouge nightclub, Air France, and Cinzano.
