died Oct. 2, 2007, New York, N.Y.
was an acclaimed stage, television, and film actor, especially known for his roles in the plays of Edward Albee. Grizzard was the first actor to play Nick in the original Broadway production of Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1962), and he received the 1996 Tony Award for best actor in a revival of A Delicate Balance. Between breaks in his theatre schedule, he appeared in films and on television. Grizzard received an Emmy Award for best supporting actor in The Oldest Living Graduate, a drama that in 1980 was broadcast live on TV.
