▪ 2009Dolores GoodmanAmerican actressborn Oct. 28, 1914?, Columbus, Ohiodied June 22, 2008, Englewood, N.J.exploited her distinctive high-pitched voice and zany personality on television shows, notably as the main character's dotty mother in the cult hit Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976–78) and its sequel, Fernwood Forever (1977–80), and as the school secretary in the movies Grease (1978) and Grease 2 (1982). Goodman trained at the School of American Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet School in New York City and danced in the chorus at Radio City Music Hall and on Broadway before transitioning into TV. As a regular (1957–58) on The Jack Paar Show, she was well known for her quirky humour and her tendency to upstage the star; in 1958 she was nominated for an Emmy Award for the show. Goodman also had recurring roles on the situation comedy Diff'rent Strokes (1981–82, 1984) and the daytime soap operas Search for Tomorrow (1968) and One Life to Live (1985). She appeared on the stage throughout her career and toured with the musical Nunsense in the 1980s.
