      Russian-born American actress and ballerina who performed with the Soviet State Dancers and Diaghilev's Ballets Russes before introducing (1927) the works of choreographer George Balanchine, to whom she was briefly married, to the New York City stage; she later hung up her ballet slippers to appear in Broadway musicals, notably Three's a Crowd and Flying Colors, and such films as Their Big Moment and Manhattan Merry-Go-Round (b. March 17, 1906?—d. Dec. 9, 1997).
