“Dan” 
      American football coach (b. Dec. 23, 1924, Augusta, Wis.—d. May 9, 2002, Phoenix, Ariz.), served three universities as head coach—Arizona State (1955–57), Missouri (1958–70), and Notre Dame (1975–80)—and was head coach and general manager of the Green Bay Packers (1971–74). His record at the universities was 172–57–9, and his Notre Dame team of 1977 became the unofficial national champion.
