Robert Denver  American actor (b. Jan. 9, 1935, New Rochelle, N.Y.—d. Sept. 2, 2005, Winston-Salem, N.C.), became a cult favourite for two roles in hit television series: the beatnik Maynard G. Krebs in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959–63) and the title character in Gilligan's Island (1964–67). The latter series remained in continuous syndication and also gave rise to two animated series, an episode of the Baywatch TV series, and three made-for-TV movies—all of which featured Denver.
