“Jack”
American sports broadcaster (b. Aug. 21, 1924, Holyoke, Mass.—d. June 18, 2002, St. Louis, Mo.), was considered the voice of baseball's St. Louis Cardinals for nearly half a century. First as Harry Caray's sidekick and from 1969 the lead announcer, he became a St. Louis institution, and with his broadcasting of National Football League, World Series, and professional bowling games on network television and radio, he achieved national renown. In 1987 Buck was inducted into the broadcasters' wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame, and in 2000 he was honoured with an Emmy Award for lifetime achievement.
