▪ 2008British fashion editor and costume designerborn Sept. 17, 1941, Cheshire, Eng.died Nov. 26, 2007, Sydney, Australiaused her shrewd fashion sense and her positions on the editorial staffs of the British fashion magazines Queen (1961–64) and Vogue (1964–73) to champion young “Swinging Sixties” designers, models, and photographers. Through her husband, American producer Sandy Lieberson, Allen also made contacts in the film industry. She coordinated some of the costumes on Kaleidoscope (1966), set in '60s London, and in 1973 she was hired to design the costumes for Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now. Allen went on to create the costumes for more than 35 film and television productions, including Little Shop of Horrors (1986), White Mischief (1987), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Brokeback Mountain (2005), and Love in the Time of Cholera (2007).
