Stefan Decansky

Stefan Decansky
or Stefan Uroš III

born 1280
died 1331

King of Serbia (1322–31).

After rebelling against his father, Stefan Uroš II (r. 1282–1321), he was blinded, so that he would be unfit to rule, and exiled (1314–20). He then showed he was not blind, claiming a miraculous cure, and was made king. He allied with the losing Andronicus II Palaeologus in the civil war with Andronicus III Palaeologus (1327–28) and was deposed by his son, Stefan Dušan.
