Rice, Jerry (Lee)

Rice, Jerry (Lee)
born Oct. 13, 1962, Starkville, Miss., U.S.

U.S. football player.

He won All-America honours at Mississippi Valley State University. As a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers (1985–2000), he was part of three Super Bowl championship teams (1988, 1989, and 1994). Standing 6 ft 2 in. (1.9 m), Rice was larger than the typical NFL wideout, and he used his size and strength to overmatch defenders; he was also an exceptional runner. He is the all-time NFL leader in touchdowns (203), receptions (1,456), receiving yards (21,597), and combined yardage (22,248).
