It is used for reclamation planting and erosion control on sandy soils. The woolly tea tree (L. lanigerum) differs in having fuzzy young shoots. The shrubby New Zealand tea tree, or manuka (L. scoparium), has several cultivated varieties with white to rose-red flowers and gray-green to brownish leaves.* * *
