A tropical Asiatic herb (Alysicarpus vaginalis) with alternate, simple leaves and reddish flowers, grown as a pasture and hay crop and naturalized in Florida and the West Indies.[Probably by folk etymology from New Latin Alysicarpus, genus name : Greek halusis, chain; See wel-2 in Indo-European Roots + Greek karpos, fruit; see -carp.]
