any of several nocturnal, wingless, cricketlike long-horned grasshoppers of the family Gryllacrididae, characterized by a humpbacked appearance and inhabiting dark moist habitats, as caves, cellars, hollow trees, and the ground under logs and stones. Also called camel cricket.
