Volunteer Reserve Forces
the branches of the British armed forces that are made up of volunteers (= people who train in their spare time to do various jobs that would be important in times of war or emergency, including fighting). The branches include the Territorial Army, the Royal Naval Reserve, the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and the Royal Marines Reserve.
