Sacks
(1933– )
an English neurologist (= doctor who studies the nerves and their diseases). He has written many books about unusual mental conditions. He has lived in the US since 1960 and has been Professor of Clinical Neurology at New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine since 1965. His book Awakenings (1973) about a ‘sleeping sickness’ was made into a 1990 film with Robin Williams. His other books include The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat (1985) and An Anthropologist on Mars (1995).
