primary care physician
(also primary care doctor) n
(in the US) a general doctor who is the first person a patient visits in the health care system. Primary care physicians treat illnesses and injuries which are not serious or send the patient to a specialist. They also help patients to manage long-term illnesses and provide health education information. Compare GP.
