Church of Scotland

Church of Scotland
the official Church in Scotland, started by John Knox and Andrew Melville in 1560, and officially accepted in 1690. It does not have bishops like the Church of England, and the members of its clergy are called ministers, rather than priests. Both men and women can be ministers. The churches of the Church of Scotland are run by a minister and a group of senior church members called elders. This system is known as Presbyterianism.
