the Latin for ‘horrible year’. Queen Elizabeth II used this expression in a speech in 1992 to describe that year, when there was a serious fire at Windsor Castle, the Princess Royal got divorced, the Duke of York(1) separated from his wife and the Prince of Wales had marriage problems.
