I. San Sal·va·dor1 (săn sălʹvə-dôr', sän säl'vä-dôrʹ) Formerly Wat·lings Island(wätʹlĭngz).
An island of the central Bahamas in the West Indies. It is generally identified as the first landfall of Christopher Columbus (October 12, 1492).
  II. San Sal·va·dor2 (săn sălʹvə-dôr', sän säl'vä-dôrʹ)
The capital and largest city of El Salvador, in the west-central part of the country. Founded in the 16th century, it became the national capital in 1841. Population: 422,570.
