Sankt Gal·len (zängkt gäʹlən) also Saint Gall (sānt gôlʹ, gälʹ, säɴ gälʹ)
A city of northeast Switzerland east of Zurich. Developed around a Benedictine abbey founded by an Irish missionary in the seventh century, it joined the Swiss Confederation in 1454. Population: 73,500.
