os·me·te·ri·um (ŏz'mĭ-tîrʹē-əm) n. pl. os·me·te·ri·a (-tîrʹē-ə)
An eversible glandular sac on the first thoracic segment of many caterpillars that secretes an unpleasant-smelling substance to ward off predators.
