Nar·vá·ez (när-väʹās', -ĕth), Pánfilo de. 1470?-1528.

Spanish conquistador who was sent to capture and replace the disloyal Hernando Cortés in Mexico but was himself captured and imprisoned by Cortés (1520-1522). He later led an expedition to Florida (1528).
