formerly  Emmiganur  or  Emmiganuru 

      town, western Andhra Pradesh state, southern India. It lies west of the city of Kurnool. Yemmiganur was included in the Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagar, which flourished during medieval times (14th–16th century). Later the town came under Muslim rule. Yemmiganur's chief industries are cotton ginning, peanut (groundnut) milling, and weaving. Pop. (2001) 76,411.
