Newburn

Newburn

      urban area, Newcastle upon Tyne metropolitan borough, metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear, historic county of Northumberland, England. It lies on the western boundary of the Tyneside metropolitan area. A residential and manufacturing district, it has a large industrial estate. The Anglo-Scottish Battle of Newburn was fought there in 1640. The Church of St. Michael and All Angels dates from 1190. Pop. (2001) 41,294.
