      major Japanese steel manufacturer and leading member of the Kawasaki group of industries. Headquarters are in Kōbe.

      The company, originally a subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., was incorporated in 1950 as a separate company. Its new post-World War II plant and advanced technology made it an important factor in Japan's postwar industrial recovery.

      Kawasaki engages primarily in the manufacture of iron and steel products, including steel plates and sheets, structural steel, tubular products, castings and forgings, and welding electrodes. It has manufacturing plants in a number of countries.
