▪ Japan(Japanese: “East Ōsaka”), city, Ōsaka fu (urban prefecture), Honshu, Japan. It lies to the east of Ōsaka and was formed in 1967 by the merger of the three towns of Fuse, Kawachi, and Hiraoka. It is a residential suburb of Ōsaka, and its industrial district produces electric appliances, machinery, clothing fibres, and paper. The Hiraoka residential area at the foot of Mount Ikoma also serves as a resort. It is the site of the remains of ancient tombs and the 7th-century Hiraoka Shrine. Pop. (2005) 513,821.
