Guainía River

Guainía River

Spanish  Río Guainía,  

      in northwest South America, one of the headstreams of the Negro River (q.v.). It rises in the rain forest of eastern Colombia and flows east, then northeast and southeast, forming part of the Colombia-Venezuela border. After 400 miles (640 km), the Guainía joins the Casiquiare River near San Carlos de Río Negro and becomes the Negro.
